Continental Grand Prix 4-Season Road Bike Tyres, Double Vectran Breaker + DuraSkin. Vectran is a synthetically manufactured high-tech fibre with a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran is a liquid crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran is spun from the molten liquid polymer Vectra and further processed into a multi-fibre yarn. Spider silk as well as Vectran have an enormous tear resistance at the lowest weight. Just the right features to be processed in a Continental top tyre as a puncture protection insert. A Vectran Breaker is lighter, more flexible and protects against cuts more effectively than comparable nylon breakers. The Vectran Breaker does not affect the rolling resistance.
Tyres with DuraSkin sidewall protection must be able to tuck in properly. They are used in the most adverse conditions. Bikes slide the tyres along curbs, on travel bikes they cross continents without chafing, in racing they must pass hardness tests such as Paris-Roubaix. The high-quality polyamide fabric reliably protects the flank of the tyre and prepares the tyre for the extreme. These tyres stand out from the wide crowd thanks to their brown sidewall.
